The oldest and most famous of the three madrasahs bordering Registan Square in Samarkand.
It was built by the grandson of Amir Timur Ulugbek, who, as is known, was not only a wise ruler, but also a great scientist.
It seems that six centuries ago, all the advanced achievements of architecture, crafts and culture of that time were used in the construction and decoration of this majestic, harmonious and simply beautiful complex.
It is striking that this is not a ruler's palace or a building for performing any administrative functions. This is a place where people studied various sciences. Ulugbek himself taught and studied.
By the way, the layout of the madrasah is somewhat similar to European universities of the Middle Ages - large halls, a cozy courtyard, shaded galleries, student cells.

Ulugbek Madrasah is a real pearl of Samarkand's architectural heritage.
