According to legend, divanbegi Nadir built this building as a caravanserai, but Imamkuli Khan accidentally misspoke at its opening and named the building a madrasah, and the khan's word, of course, is the law. According to another version, Khan was deliberately misinformed by the imams who decided to take over such a luxurious building. Anyway, the vizier was left without a business project, but in the people's memory he became a patron and defender of Islam.
