A nice wide pebble beach, plenty of space, there are changing cabins, free toilet, shower, cafes nearby, a grove with Pitsunda pines. I don't like the statue itself, I don't understand why this unpleasant Greek epic is on a family beach. It was possible to create something positive
I didn't like this monument - it was too gloomy.
At the southernmost tip of Cape Pitsunda, a 5-meter bronze statue of a woman clutching two small children stands black. Her face is full of love and anger, and a sword is hanging on her left hip. Tangled hair flutters behind his back, like a tangle of snakes. One arm embraces his sons, the other is ready to draw a blade from its scabbard. This is how the Georgian artist Merab Berdzenishvili depicted Medea, the heroine of the ancient epic about the Golden Fleece.
The tragic story of the princess began with the fact that the ship Argo sailed from afar to the shores of Colchis under the command of Jason, sent by an evil uncle in search of the legendary Golden Fleece — an eternal source of wealth and power. The task was deadly — Jason had to fight with an entire army and defeat the dragon guarding the fleece. He would have been killed, but the daughter of the king of the Kolkhov fell in love with the young foreigner, who, at the same time, was also a powerful sorceress. She drugged the dragon with a potion, stole the fleece with Jason, and fled on a ship from her father's anger.
Their ardent love did not last long. After returning home, Medea repeatedly used her witchcraft to kill, as a result they had to flee the city. And then Jason left Medea to marry another princess. An enraged woman stabbed both of his sons in front of his father. This tragic moment was reflected by the sculptor in his work.
In Russia, they speak neither to the village nor to the city!
Monumental and unusual sculpture, not a landscaped area! You always need to think about your territory...
It's a very atmospheric place. Especially if you know the history and love the myths about Colchis. The statue itself is for an amateur. It's a little gloomy, a little heavy, but it's gorgeous for a photo!
This is probably how a woman who is able to kill her children to harm her husband should look like. A strange legend, a strange composition. The Pitsunda embankment starts from this sculpture, if you walk from the cape.
The second iconic sculpture adorning the beach of Pitsunda is "Medea, daughter of the King of Colchis". Unlike the "Pearl Divers", it has not become a business card of Pitsunda, tourists are less likely to be photographed near it. The reason is simple - the sculpture is actually located on the Pitsunda Cape itself, not far from the lighthouse, but far from the entrance to the Association of Resorts, and the length of the Association beach is about 2 - 2.5 km. Tourists just don't get to it. It is also far enough to go from the wild beach to it, although no one takes money for admission from that side (50 rubles per person). During the two weeks that my family and I vacationed in Pitsunda, we only reached it one evening.
The sculpture is huge, majestic, striking in its size and shape. Massive, huge Medea - this is how the author saw it.

The sculpture of Medea. Author Merab Berdzenishvili, People's Artist of Georgia. It is located on the edge of the cape . In the area of the lighthouse and the boarding house of the same name. Interesting things about Medea on Wikipedia. In short, having fallen in love with the leader of the Argonauts, Jason, she helped him with the help of a magic potion to take possession of the golden fleece and withstand the trials that her father subjected him to.
An amazing sculpture, huge, impressive. We lived nearby, in the Mayak building, so we admired it every day.
Of course, she conveys an interesting episode, how can a "mother" kill her children in revenge for a traitorous husband?
Very clean, transparent, turquoise sea. Unlike us, the Abkhazians, apparently, do not dump waste into the sea. At least in Pitsunda, this is not noticeable. The nature is wonderful. There are pine trees around the boarding houses, and the gardens chirp from morning to evening.
You can see the sculpture if you walk along the promenade of the Resort of United Boarding Houses. You need to move to the right from the pier to the far buildings.
Medea froze on the very shore of the sea, not far from the Pitsunda lighthouse.
The sculpture is made of bronze. Its height is 5 meters. Medea impresses the audience with its massiveness. The proportions of her body are so inconsistent with the appearance of the Abkhazian girls, slender and graceful.
The author of the work, People's Artist of Georgia Merab Berdzenishvili, captured the Colchian sorceress at the moment when she is about to kill her two sons. Terrified children cling to her feet in horror.
What is the reason for Princess Medea's cruelty? The answer is banal - in unhappy love. Medea fell in love with Jason, who was sent in search of the golden Fleece (and in fact doomed to death). It was thanks to the sorceress that Jason still managed to get the golden fleece. And he sails away with him and the princess.

Hello, dear readers of my channel. In this article I want to tell you a little about the famous sculpture "Medea", which is rightfully considered one of the main symbols of the resort town of Pitsunda.
You can see the sculpture if you walk along the promenade of the Resort of United Boarding Houses. You need to move to the right from the pier to the far buildings.

It was thanks to the sorceress that Jason still managed to get the golden fleece. And he sails away with him and the princess.
But their love was not destined to last long, and soon Jason fell in love with another. Selfish Medea could not forgive him for his betrayal and to take revenge, she stabbed her sons in front of her former lover.
Despite such a tragic plot, the sculpture is popular with tourists and has become one of the symbols of the resort.
By the way, in winter during severe storms, the entire nearby area is flooded by the sea. The raging elements break the concrete road, demolish the breakwaters, throw out sand and stones, and Medea still stands, unaffected by the "angry" sea and will stand for many, many more years ...
That's near such a Medea and I took a picture on 12/11/2021.
We study the history of the cities of the world together!
The sea is clean, sometimes garbage washes up to the shore, it is not comfortable to swim, do not swim for more than five meters, if not less, steamboats and motorcycles constantly go by!
She's great.
Walk to the very end of the beach. You won't regret it. I was impressed with her.
Well, if you plunge into myths. Killing your children to hurt your loved one is a so-so story.... Don't make us angry😄😉
Nicely. But some vacationers on the beach think that the best place to sit is under it. Unfortunately, because of this, it is not convenient to photograph it entirely from a convenient angle.
An interesting sculptural composition on the western cape of the Pitsunda bay, almost on the seashore. Nearby: "Del Mar" (cafe and dining room), the buildings of "Amzara" and the Lighthouse.
It's a great place!
The sea is noisy. And two hundred meters along the shore to the left and the sea is already very quiet. I was always amazed. I highly recommend visiting Pitsunda one day.
And there's a delightful sunset every day after dinner.
A sad and very beautiful monument on the shore of the magical Black Sea in Pitsunda. Local residents say that during winter storms, huge waves hit Medea and it buzzes like a bell - for the whole of Pitsunda.
The sculpture "Medea" is located on the Black Sea coast in Pitsunda, on the territory of the association of boarding houses "Pitsunda" next to the buildings "Amzara" and "Mayak". The height is about 5 meters, it is impossible not to notice it, vacationers like to take pictures next to it.
Medea and her two sons ... - I will definitely reread the "myth of the Golden Fleece" in order to better understand the sculpture
An unusual monument with an interesting legend. It is located on the seashore, a wonderful place for walking with children and relaxing. At the same time, you can see beautiful sunsets
👍👍A cool man-made work on the coast of the resort "Pitsunda"! It is impressive both in composition (especially at sunset), and in size, ..... and in grooming - without "Vasya was here"!
I didn't really get into it, to be honest.
A huge statue, she would have a sign next to it, otherwise only on the Internet you can understand what it's about..)))
