When the statue was made, the Gorky Square, for which it was intended, had not yet been formed. It was supposed to be located in the northwestern sector of the Sovetsky-Gorky intersection. But the writer's 100th anniversary came up, Gvardeyskaya Street was renamed Gorky, and the monument was temporarily installed on the "old" Gorky Street (already renamed Koenkozov Street by that time).
