Once, after a long break from visiting Ukraine, I was struck by a refinery owned by BP. The last of the refineries built by the USSR in Ukraine, modern equipment. And at the same time, huge Ukrainian men are dejectedly carrying jars of homemade borscht to the microwaves before lunch
