A wonderful historical and cultural complex in the city of Akhaltsikhe in unforgettable Georgia. The fortress itself, as well as beautiful buildings and gardens are located on a fairly large area. In 2011-2012, the complex was renovated and partially restored. Inside there is an Orthodox church, as well as a mosque and a madrasah. Very beautiful and well-maintained garden, fountain, marble colonnade. Someone writes that after the restoration, the fortress lost its authenticity. I think this is fundamentally wrong. It is much better and more pleasant to visit a well-maintained, restored, beautiful cultural monument than to enjoy the views of the ruins. So in my opinion, they just did a grandiose and large-scale work here. I would like to add that the entrance to the complex is located in one place. Sometimes it is easy to confuse it with the exit, but the kind and polite guards and staff of the complex will explain to you very clearly where the entrance is. I am glad that there are simply huge parking lots next to the complex. There is no car crush. There is a ticket office inside the fortress where entrance tickets are purchased. I strongly advise you to allocate at least 3-4 hours to visit the complex. As I wrote earlier, it is very large in area. Almost the entire complex is located in the open air, which is a bit inconvenient in hot weather. In this case, there are shaded recreation areas where you can sit on beautiful benches. I strongly advise you to climb the highest tower of the fortress. It offers a truly stunning view of the city of Akhaltsikhe and the surrounding area. There is also a museum on the territory of the complex. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we did not visit it.
As a result, what can I say. Thank you for the wonderful historical and cultural place. Thank you for preserving history, traditions, and heritage. Many thanks to such people!!! And I strongly advise all guests of Georgia to visit this place. Have a great time, enjoy the views, touch the history.
The large area of the complex. A great place to walk and create beautiful photos. There is a drinking fountain on the territory, it saves in hot weather))
You can climb the towers from where you can enjoy beautiful views.
I strongly recommend you to visit☺
A beautiful place, you can walk for a long time and admire the beauty of the fortress.
Unfortunately, we passed without an excursion, we read on arrival.
There are many locations.
The territory is well maintained.
Very beautiful landscaping.
When visiting, I imagined how people of that time spent their time in the fortress.
The beauty outside the walls of the fortress is breathtaking.
I want to go back and wander all day
It's a very beautiful place. Both the lower part, where you can visit the towers and walls, and the upper part with the citadel. Magnificent views of both the surroundings and the internal architecture of the complex. It is a pity that due to the late arrival in Akhaltsikhe, they could not get to the museum located in the upper part of the complex, as well as take an excursion.
This place is a must-visit! A large architectural ensemble in oriental style. A large historical page of Georgia, whose history is closely intertwined with the East. Read about it in advance. And the place is fabulously atmospheric. To feel the fairy tale, leave at least 3 hours for a leisurely walk to admire both the interior decor and the breathtaking panorama from the fortress walls. An ideal place for fans of photo shoots. I recommend walking both in the lower part and in the upper part. Do not save money - it will pay off with delight! And then sit on the outdoor terrace of the cafe, enjoy coffee and cake - and the acquaintance with the Georgian East will be bright and complete!
Very beautiful. It's a wonderful tradition to celebrate a wedding here - just like a king. This wonderful place is very interesting. Beautiful style. Magical views. Everything is super
We arrived in the evening and....a miracle opened up in front of us in the lights of a beautiful backlight! We had a great time with the tour. It is a very interesting and beautiful building with a rich history. Don't drive by! This is also a significant part of Georgian history!
A very beautiful and well-maintained place. You can climb almost all the towers. There are very cozy and secluded places where it's just nice to sit in the shade.
It is a very textured place, the largest fortress I have seen in Georgia. It is very beautiful and interesting. You can wander through the buildings of the fortress and see how life was organized. There is a beautiful mosque on the territory of the fortress. You can climb the outer walls and watchtowers. Beautiful garden, fountain, gazebos.
I really liked the fortress. There is a fusion of 2 eras and different directions: Christian and Muslim. There is history in everything. I recommend stopping by to see and take a walk around the fortress.
One can feel the history of this architectural structure, which has changed over time, since the
19th century.
There is a hotel, souvenir shops, cafes on the territory, you can do a gorgeous photo shoot.
We stopped on the way from Batumi to Borjomi in Akhaltsikhe.
View of the 5-star fortress, View from the fortress ***, Architecture *****, Renovation ***, Hotel: renovation *** (bathrooms are problematic, not very clean, cleaning problems, kitchen and breakfasts are very mediocre)
A gorgeous fortress, surpassed our expectations. You need to plan at least 2 hours for visits and photos. Part of the fortress can be bypassed for free. But the paid part is mandatory to visit, because it is incredibly beautiful. You can walk along the fortress walls, enter the towers. This is the top place to visit.
The fortress itself is very beautiful. You can have a good time.
After a walk around the fortress, we went to the on-site restaurant. Just disgusting service and food too....We ordered the wrong molet, burger, noodles....we waited sooo long and not tasty. I do not recommend a restaurant.
The fortress has been almost completely restored. You can climb any tower and explore the surroundings. The inner territory of the fortress is beyond praise.
As in many fortresses of Georgia, it is beautiful here! There are many good views . If you drive your own car, you can still eat all sorts of goodies growing right on the trees along the way!
Visiting Rabat Fortress was an exciting journey into the past. Majestic walls, amazing architecture and rich history create a unique atmosphere. Viewing the expositions and walking around the fortress left an unforgettable impression. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in history and culture
Novodel. The view is beautiful from the outside, there is emptiness everywhere inside, concrete walls, floors, ceilings, as if I got into the scenery for a movie. Parking is large and free. There are a lot of visitors. There are drinking water fountains on site. You can walk everywhere. There are several good places for photo shoots.
An unusual place.
A kind of kitsch! Or "people's horses are mixed up in a bunch.
There is a free territory and 18 GEL per person.
That's all for the second one at the same time! French green maze, Greek or pseudo-Roman bathing suit, Orthodox church, mosque and fountains with a fortress))
A very beautiful place, we walked for half a day, went around all the towers and all the buildings, amazing views, I really liked it! I recommend it !👍
A friend invited me to visit, I was delighted with what I saw, not expecting it ! From
everything: beauty, scale, lots of greenery, everything is well maintained! Photo zones!
A well-restored fortress. It's fun to climb to the top and see the valley. A piece of white marble is beautifully decorated - it's very nice to sit there in the shade. The history of the fortress can be read on the wiki. There is little museum content, i.e. there are only rooms, there are literally a couple of museum rooms.
A wonderful place) I was surprised that most of the towers and this territory can be viewed completely free of charge.
So there is a place to take a walk, enjoy the beautiful views.
The towers offer a wonderful view of the mountains and the city) You can also buy a ticket and see absolutely everything there, excursions are also available.
We did not regret that we visited there and were satisfied)
A strange historical and cultural place. A new modern fortress in the old style was built on the historical basis. An open-air museum. New building. Like the scenery for a movie.
An ambivalent impression. I probably don't like this format of presenting history.
There are a lot of people inside. Complete tourist infrastructure. Ticket offices, information, souvenirs...
A ticket in September 2023 cost 17 lali.
Parking at the walls is not large . The car can not be delivered . If you don't arrive early in the morning))).
It is better to drive up the fortress past the central gate to the right. At the exit of the fort , at the top of the hill there is a very large parking lot and an even larger empty field nearby . Parking is free here.
Excursion buses immediately pick up tourists who have left the fort. There is a cafe.
You will need to descend 100m along the sidewalk to the main entrance.
You can walk around the free part of this fortress)))
A very large fortress, you can get tired of walking. Beautiful, unusual, interesting views. There is more than enough for a first walk around the castle
A great place to walk. It is beautiful, well-groomed, I don't really like restored old buildings, but this is the only way to preserve the cultural heritage of the country. I recommend you to visit.
Admission is 18 GEL per person, very expensive. There is little old left of the castle, a lot of cement. If there is an opportunity to climb old and unrepaired locks, then I do not recommend it here
A cool, ideally restored fortress. Very big. It's really cool. Inside there are pools, fountains, cafes, restaurants and a guest house, right in the historical part... You can live right in the Pasha Sultan's tower along the way for a cheap price... Test audio guide
A beautifully restored fortress, impressive for its size and variety of architectural eras. It is worth visiting 100%. Unfortunately, there is a very weak audio guide in Russian (we haven't tried it in others). They tell little, far from everything, and with mistakes.
The place is historical. I recommend to visit, preferably with a guide. The rich history of this fortress. Restored very well. You can visit on the way back from Vardzia. By time, lay at least 1 hour.
I advise you to visit, you will not regret it, you can take a lot of photos, listen to an interesting story from the guide in English, Russian and Georgian.
Everything is just gorgeous, beautiful and graceful!
In such a small town as Akhaltsikhe, such a magnificent recreation area, where you can repeatedly go and visit!
I really liked it. Although it is an obvious novelty, it is interesting to wander, it is fun to climb the walls, it is pleasant to sit in a cafe, it is informative to go to the museum. I highly recommend it.
I visited the fortress on my first visit to Georgia, and everything worked out on this trip: information, weather, wonderful guides... I liked the fortress. It is a pity that there was no time to take a tour of the fortress. We only had time to look and take pictures. A lot of posh locations. It looks luxurious.
This is the coolest fortress where I've ever been, the territory is just huge, it's clear that the landscape designers and gardeners have tried very hard, there is also an information center on the territory, cafes where you can have a snack) we walked there for half a day, and I wanted more! We recommend everyone to visit)
The place is cool. The views from the fortress are super. Everything is well maintained and renovated inside. And yes, minus the entrance in one place, and the exit in another place. We'll have to walk a little to the car. And so SUPER.
Despite the fact that many people spit on the new model, I think that the place is wonderful. Convenient, beautiful, and, by the way, delicious (in the restaurant in the complex)
A large newly renovated fortress with gorgeous views and beautiful interior decoration. There are shadow zones. The size of the fortress is amazing. Well preserved!
A beautiful and interesting fortress, divided into two parts, upper and lower. A stone wall is installed between the upper and lower parts. Entering through the gates of the Upper Fortress, you can walk through a narrow corridor to a small garden, where a Christian church with a bell tower rises from the north side. A gazebo with a fountain, a Moorish-style covered gallery, the Ahmadiyeh Mosque and the Samtskhe-Javakheti Museum attract attention.
The citadel is the highest point of the fortress and Akhaltsikhe, it opens up a view of the city and the surrounding area, and it is definitely worth climbing it.
Admission cost 18 lari for foreign citizens
I recommend you to visit
