A wonderful historical and cultural complex in the city of Akhaltsikhe in unforgettable Georgia. The fortress itself, as well as beautiful buildings and gardens are located on a fairly large area. In 2011-2012, the complex was renovated and partially restored. Inside there is an Orthodox church, as well as a mosque and a madrasah. Very beautiful and well-maintained garden, fountain, marble colonnade. Someone writes that after the restoration, the fortress lost its authenticity. I think this is fundamentally wrong. It is much better and more pleasant to visit a well-maintained, restored, beautiful cultural monument than to enjoy the views of the ruins. So in my opinion, they just did a grandiose and large-scale work here. I would like to add that the entrance to the complex is located in one place. Sometimes it is easy to confuse it with the exit, but the kind and polite guards and staff of the complex will explain to you very clearly where the entrance is. I am glad that there are simply huge parking lots next to the complex. There is no car crush. There is a ticket office inside the fortress where entrance tickets are purchased. I strongly advise you to allocate at least 3-4 hours to visit the complex. As I wrote earlier, it is very large in area. Almost the entire complex is located in the open air, which is a bit inconvenient in hot weather. In this case, there are shaded recreation areas where you can sit on beautiful benches. I strongly advise you to climb the highest tower of the fortress. It offers a truly stunning view of the city of Akhaltsikhe and the surrounding area. There is also a museum on the territory of the complex. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we did not visit it.
As a result, what can I say. Thank you for the wonderful historical and cultural place. Thank you for preserving history, traditions, and heritage. Many thanks to such people!!! And I strongly advise all guests of Georgia to visit this place. Have a great time, enjoy the views, touch the history.
