After all those ancient estates that I had the pleasure to visit, it seemed to me that the Belgorod-Dniester fortress would not be able to surprise me with anything... How wrong I was. A frightening atmospheric place that takes a person 1000 years ago, in those ancient times when human life was not worth a penny, and a safe (actually not very) life was the lot of wealthy nobles who could afford to build an impregnable fortress.

A real medieval fortress in excellent condition. A must-visit. In addition to the atmosphere inside the fortress, there are excellent views from its walls

I have not been to the fortress for more than 15 years and now I have come again. Everything has changed, I just don't understand which way. This is no longer a "wild" place with its legends, ghosts, horned creatures and tarantulas, where you could climb everywhere and feel like a medieval knight. This is an open-air cultural "museum", where entrance is paid and there is a cafe and Wi-Fi. Free, by the way, is a plus! There is no way to approach from the estuary, you can't take a picture on that very stone, you can only see the fortress from the water. The steep steps are fenced with railings, many passages are closed. We took an excursion - with a guide, of course, it is more interesting. In general, on the one hand, it has become better - more civilized, safer, you can relax, drink coffee, send a couple of fresh photos to your family. And on the other hand, well, there is no more of that atmosphere and that's it.
