The Church of St. Sava in Belgrade is one of the most impressive sights in Serbia. This Orthodox church impresses with its grandeur and scale, being one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world.
**History and architecture:**
The temple was founded in 1894 and has been under construction for many years, undergoing various historical events. Its construction was completed in 2021 thanks to the financing of the Russian company Gazprom Neft.
It was decided to cover the vaults and walls of the temple with mosaics, the total area of the mosaic is 15 thousand square meters. However, there were no masters with the necessary experience in Serbia. The People's Artist of Russia Nikolai Mukhin was ready to cope with the task. Under the guidance of
Mukhina almost one hundred Russian and Serbian craftsmen laid 50 million mosaic elements with a total weight of more than 300 tons. They had to create their own color palette, in which, for example, only 53 shades of blue were used!
**Interior decoration:**
Inside, the temple impresses with its rich decoration and scale. Mosaics and wall paintings were created under the direction of Nikolai Mukhin. The temple is dominated by light and golden shades, which gives it a special atmosphere. The image of the Savior stands above the altar, blessing those entering the temple. The dome of the temple is decorated with a mosaic of the scene "Ascension of the Lord", inspired by the mosaics of St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice.
The Church of St. Sava is not only a religious building, but also a real work of art. The result of this truly titanic work can be seen firsthand by visiting this magical majestic Orthodox church. Visiting it leaves an unforgettable impression and allows you to better understand the culture and history of Serbia.
I really liked it. In general, Orthodox churches are one of the most colorful prayer houses. In the Church of St.Sava has a lot of beautiful paintings, especially the frescoes on the domes of the temple are fascinating. There are also many scriptures and icons. By the way, this is an active temple and most likely, services are held there.
An amazing temple! Very light, airy. It seems that it is much bigger inside than outside))
It is one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in Europe. The church was designed at the end of the XIX century, but construction could only begin in 1935, and all work was completed only in the next century, in 2004. It is beautiful, majestic, and large-scale. A beautiful temple with a huge number of tourists and parishioners. Inside, it's just a fairy tale. There is a crypt on the ground floor, which you need to remember to go down ✌️
It is a very beautiful temple. Although it is new, the history of its construction is very interesting. Audio guide to the QR code in Serbian, Russian and English. Admission is free. You can safely take photos and shoot videos. Saint Sava plays an important role in Serbian history.
A grandiose place. Quiet, calm, beautiful. It's only natural - candles are placed on the street, it's a little unusual, but if you watch the locals, you can figure it out
A stunning temple. It's very beautiful. It was completed relatively recently. It is not always possible to get into the crypt because it is sometimes closed, and sometimes there is a baptism there.
Inspiringly beautiful) it's good that there are no grannies, as in the Russian Federation. You can safely go in and stand by the icons. To touch the relics. Take a candle quietly and for free and put it on.
A huge temple. The exterior decoration resembles the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. Inside there are brilliant mosaics with golden decorations. It seems that this is how St. Sophia should have looked before the Turks
The Orthodox church, which contains a unique combination of harmony and style, stunning frescoes, a warm atmosphere for a long time leave joy in the soul and peace, a place where you want to return
It's beautiful and interesting. It was completed with the participation of Gazprom. It's very beautiful inside. I was surprised that candles are placed not inside, but outside. And don't forget to read the history of the temple!
A beautiful temple, I got to Trinity, the Serbs have a tradition of laying hay inside and making wreaths of this grass for themselves, children play there, in general, it's great and festive
The largest Orthodox church in Europe. It is very beautiful both outside and inside. Inside you can buy icons (the cheapest ones seemed to cost 600 Serbian dinars) and other church paraphernalia.
It is noteworthy that Serbian churches do not put candles inside. There are places outside for them for fire safety purposes. Two types of candles are also placed - the upper tier for health, and the lower one for repose.
A stunningly beautiful temple, one of the most unusual of those that I have seen with my own eyes. The walls are decorated with mosaics, there is a second hall in the basement. Stunning huge chandelier in the style of Hagia Sophia Cathedral in Constantinople (Istanbul)
I've been going there for years :) a very good place feels sacred))) I advise everyone to go there and there is also a skit there)))) and the bathhouse is always where I swim.
It's amazing! The mosaic is even on the back stairs! Unique picturesque images on the walls of the temple! Be sure to visit the temple in the crypt. Everything is very decent!
A stunning and unusual temple! The great work of the masters. The walls are decorated with mosaics, and there is a second hall in the basement. A must-visit!
A beautiful temple, the interior decoration is almost finished, mosaic panels around the perimeter of the temple, somewhat resembled the Temple of the Armed Forces in Patriot, the same beauty of the interior decoration is very impressive.
This splendor is worth seeing only with your own eyes. The work of the craftsmen who created this simply stunning mosaic on the walls of the cathedral leaves an indelible impression. Be sure to visit this inspiring place.
The temple is very beautiful, as indicated on the sign next to the temple, our Gazprom has invested 10 million euros there... Well, we have nothing to restore in the country. And so, everything is rich and beautiful, but it's not even fully finished yet. Very new.
A very big temple!!! It doesn't seem as big on the outside as it does on the inside.
It is beautiful, spacious, and there are chairs for the tired traveler, which helps to read the inscriptions on the ceiling.
After admiring the cathedral from the outside, I went inside for souvenirs, and got an example of splendor. No grandmothers at the entrance muttering "in shorts and without a handkerchief," no boorish candle vendors, no darkness under the arches of the temple. The cathedral is full of light and golden-colorful mosaics, the inscriptions near the saints are clearly legible. Candles are placed outside the temple, and are not sold at the established rate, but are available for any voluntary donation. Everyone can come in, even in any clothes, even with children in strollers. At the same time, everyone behaves decently and quietly. There are benches - you can listen to the service while sitting. There are separate shops with church themes, and they accept both cash and cards; what is funny, the crosses in them turned out to be Russian-made. There is an atmosphere of kind, solemn peace in the temple.
A Place of Strength, Peace and Prayer....🙏🏻
But it is necessary to take into account local traditions, in the Orthodox churches of Serbia candles for Health and Repose are placed not in the temple, but next to it in a special room or place...
I was in the temple this year, in general, it's not bad, but it's too pompous for me. There is a small temple nearby, two steps away on the same territory - be sure to go there!
The temple is very beautiful, you can buy candles in the temple, you can put them on the streets when leaving the temple in a specially designated place
A very beautiful, large Orthodox church. The icons are lined with mosaics. As in other Orthodox churches in Serbia, women can enter with their heads uncovered.
A grandiose structure! You need to start a tour of Belgrade with him. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the history of the temple. Admission is free.
The Church of St. Sava is one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. Construction began in 1935 and the prototype was the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.
At the moment, finishing works are continuing in the cathedral building, which are being carried out with the financial support of Russia.
The splendor of the interior decoration and the grandeur of the monumentality of the cathedral are available to us now.
