The Lotus Temple is one of the most famous Indian temples, symbolizing the unity of all religions spread throughout India. Tourists are attracted primarily by its appearance, because nowhere else will you see a temple in the shape of a lotus flower. But this is not the only advantage of the temple – its interior design will impress you no less. Historical background The Lotus Temple was built in New Delhi in 1986. It is considered the main temple of the city. Its architect was the famous Canadian architect Fariborz Sahba. The prototype of the building was the Sydney Opera House. He has been repeatedly awarded various prizes and awards in the field of architecture. The architecture of the temple looks like a lotus flower, consisting of 27 petals. These petals, made of marble, are combined into three pieces, which allowed the architect to give the temple a nine-sided shape. The temple has nine entrances, each of which leads to the center – a large hall, which reaches a height of 40 meters. The capacity of the hall is about 2000 people. The interior design of the temple is unique and unlike other holy places. There are no objects of worship or religious paintings here. It is believed that the temple was created so that a person could come here and communicate directly with God, any unnecessary details can interfere with this. There is also a luxurious garden on the territory of the Lotus Temple, which is pleasant to stroll through on a hot day. There is a lake around the temple, which complements the picture and creates the impression that a lotus flower blooms on the surface of the water. The total area of the temple is about 26 acres, that is, almost 11 hectares.
It is a very beautiful place, there is something to see. It is very quiet inside the building, when visiting, everyone is silent, who reads prayers to himself, who meditates, I recommend visiting.
The temple is magnificent, you need to take off your shoes to enter, so take wool socks with you during the winter months (perhaps shoe covers will do, but not this is not certain)The marble path to the temple is cold, and the queue is about 15-20 minutes long.
