Hampi, the ancient capital of the Varjianagar Empire, is the spirit of greatness, former power and rich culture hovering within the walls of this ancient city. The area of 26 square kilometers includes palaces, temples, royal elephant gardens and many other archaeological sites included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. The incredible landscapes, diverse architectural beauties, stunning atmosphere and noble langurs, monkeys inhabiting the territory of the city, served as the prototype of the "monkey city" described in Kipling's The Jungle Book.
