For me, this place was terrible! Yes, we knew there were cats, but they lie on the tables and sleep. They are not clean, indoor-only cats—they are let outside and then come back and sit on the tables! They can drink water from your glass, and while they will replace it, it’s disgusting. Cat will only be removed if it’s awake; if it’s sleeping, they won’t touch it.
The menu is small, but there are some options. My friends and I ordered Turkish meat ravioli—4 portions. Waitress said they would take 20 minutes to prepare, but in the end, it took 45 minutes, which is unacceptable, especially since the café was almost empty. The ravioli were overcooked, the dough was too soft, the meat was tasteless, and everything was drowned in a huge amount of cold yogurt and tomato sauce. It was not good, and we couldn’t finish all four portions. The staff didn’t offer anything—not a discount, not even a small gesture from the café. Customer service was nonexistent.
At best, this café is worth stopping by for a cup of coffee and a photo of the old-fashioned interior. Some reviews said it feels like visiting a grandmother’s or aunt’s house, but if that’s the case, then it’s a house where the grandmother can’t cook and wasn’t really expecting you😂
Nice cafe with cats.
There are a lot of things that are interesting to look at.
The menu is small, I won't say that the cuisine is exquisite, but we followed the atmosphere.
The staff is pleasant.
If you are not ready that a cat can sit on your table without asking, it is better not to go.
I recommend a place!
By points: staff, atmosphere, food and drinks.
The staff is very friendly and cozy. They speak English well, know the menu and can tell you about the positions in it. The cat staff is very fluffy and interactive! Cats can come up on their own, jump on their knees, on the table. I can sleep on you, on a table, on a chair, anywhere. But if cats bother you, the female workers will come up and help you!
The atmosphere is calm. There are many different decorative elements inside the cafe - paintings, figurines, lamps. Of note to me: cute coffee cups, a menu in the form of a handwritten letter, a jar from Germany from under liqueurs is used for storing toothpicks!!
The toilet is clean, well-groomed. The entrance to the toilet is through the refrigerator, it sounds and looks very funny)))
Food and drinks are on the level. Good value for money! My husband ordered an "omelet with cheese" - he was very pleased! And there is a lot of cheese, and not enough butter! I took Breakfast Naftalin, the girl warned me in advance that it was two toasts with pasta, cheese and ... I already forgot ... but it's very tasty! I also recommend it!
Drinks are top!! And the cups are top! I really liked coffee in Turkey with milk and Americano with milk for my husband.))
In general, I advise you to visit the institution!
An unusual and atmospheric cafe! Located in the Balat area, there is no hearty food, only drinks and snacks. The menu is entirely in Turkish, but the friendly waitresses were able to help with the selection in English. Vintage is everywhere, and the door to the bathroom looks like the door from the refrigerator. Well, cats who feel at ease among the visitors of the institution)
A wonderful place with a history. Caring staff. Prices are slightly above average. It is very beautiful and cozy here, you can consider the details for a long time. And of course they love cats here. Recommend 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
It seems that the main visitors here are cats, and if you are without a tail and on two legs, then you will not get a normal place and service. With three tables available (well, not exactly free - cats were lying and sitting on them), the waitress negatively offered us a table outside (the air temperature was +7). No, thanks, no Mothballs.
We went to rest after visiting the area. We were outside, we could appreciate the interior a little, through the windows) The staff are very polite, young people) The coffee and lemonade are delicious, the prices are adequate for the tourist area. I really liked the seals, there were both kind and grumblers, but all paws)
The original location. It is very atmospheric and unusual, and the cuisine is not bad, everything is delicious. The prices are not space. Local cats feel like masters, however, as in general in Istanbul))) Definitely worth a visit.
Well, a very atmospheric and original place 😻 drinks and sweets are delicious, the original menu is in an envelope :) The seals rule the ball here! They can walk around your table while you eat :)
It's so atmospheric that it's impossible not to go in. I ate an omelet, Sans Sebastian, and tea. I liked everything. The place by the window is just the height of romance and atmosphere.
There are a million cafes in Balata, but we chose this one based on reviews. Because there are cats everywhere)) very lamp-like! The menu is small but authentic, generally delicious, but not to say that it's straight wow. Regular tea is not served after 14:00 for some reason, but with cinnamon - please)
In short, the cats and the general atmosphere make this place really memorable, it's worth a visit
We liked everything. We came on a tip from bloggers, after we looked at the Balat and the church upstairs. Therefore, to relax and drink coffee was as the doctor ordered. The key description of the cafe is atmospheric. A toilet is required for visiting. I can't tell you from the menu. Coffee is normal. The waitress girl understands Russian.
It's very cute and colorful. There was no light on at the time of my visit. Therefore, I cannot appreciate the work of the kitchen.

Coffee shop-tea shop with an unusual history and view (both inside and outside) At a checkpoint in the Balata area.
The prices are normal, you can say even 10% cheaper than in the city center. There are a lot of people.
There are even more seals on the tables
I recommend
A good place, cats are everywhere, to visit only if you are loyal to the cats that are on the table)

The best Turkish coffee (and a large selection of types from different regions) is sure to pet the seals and be touched by the overall atmosphere. They speak English.
A very cute tiny cafe with a magic door to the toilet - like a transition to another world :))) The surroundings are even without numerous cats, but they give an even more cozy atmosphere.
Terrible food and very very expensive. Yes, it's a great idea! But the place was praised on social networks and now they sell treasured cakes at super prices. And this is already from the category of loss of conscience. Taking a photo is super! But it is impossible to eat here unambiguously.
A very interesting authentic place
The price tag is incredibly large, but apparently for the popularity) I liked the interior... The cheesecake was delicious
A very atmospheric coffee shop: the best music of the 70x-90x of the last century, the company of cats and a cute interior.
I recommend going in for coffee
We came based on reviews from the Internet. The prices are too high. Sandwich with melted cheese 180 lire, fried eggs 220 lire. The coffee is only Turkish. We ordered a sandwich and brought it burnt. The only thing is that the interior is interesting.
If you are from Moscow and like bars like a house in which there are tit birds, the interior will suit you. The food is delicious and inexpensive for Istanbul.
I love Balat and naphthalene cafe. Sometimes, of course, I think about hygiene - because cats lie on tables and obviously do not wash their paws before that. But it's atmospheric and the coffee is excellent. By the way, everything is OK with health, without consequences.
A very atmospheric place, all in retro style. It's funny that I crawl kittens wherever they want, like there are 9 of them there. Oh, and the toilet is behind the door of an old refrigerator😂
Four stars for cats. The food is not delicious. The scrambled eggs were terribly salted and burned.
The place is reminiscent of patriki in Moscow, there are many cafes around right on the road with empty panoramic walls
I didn't understand the hype around the place. The choice of food is very poor. The coffee is just disgusting, it tastes like it was brewed 3in1 in an unwashed cup. The toilet has age-old dust and cobwebs on the walls
A controversial feeling))if you are not afraid of catching taxoplasmosis and are a vegetarian, feel free to come!!it's very cozy , the coffee is delicious, atmospheric ; but the cats jumping on the tables are for an amateur!
A very bright, nice cafe (although there is a toilet in the refrigerator), excellent cuisine, pleasant atmosphere. Arrogant cats can come to your table, but Muslims have a strict custom-you can't treat cats badly and you can't drive them away.
A very atmospheric place. It's not expensive and everything is quite edible. Raspberry San Sebastian is tender and delicious!

The cafe is obviously well-publicized.
We entered it because we got caught in the rain. There are a lot of hand seals, but the price tag, of course, is bent.
100 lire glass of tea.
Tea and 2 pieces of baklava for 3 came out at ~ 430 lire.
They decided to take the "pomegranate" tea, brought the usual karkade, passing it off as a pomegranate.
There are no more advantages, the cats are gone, the cafe remains.
There is nothing sensible to eat.
6 positions : 2-3 are scrambled eggs, 2 more are eggplant and pepper and 1 more is a large mix of eggplant and pepper.
There are no photos for obvious reasons. What's there to take pictures of :)
Without negativity.
