The place occupied by this church has been a sacred territory for Christianity since the beginning of the conquest, since back in 1520, the first chapel dedicated to St. James was built on the site where the church is located today.
The one that we see today sank into the foundation in 1679, was repeatedly restored and attracts the attention of all who pass in front of it, forcing them to stop because of the contrast between the black stone and the white walls. .
But the contrast does not end there, because behind the cold exterior there is a colorful interior, which in many ways reminded me of beautiful Mexican primitivism.
Many images literally fill the church, although the most beloved and most accessible, located at ground level, is almost Santiago the Apostle.
