Check-in 03.03.2023, check-out 13.03.2023. The first trip to Cuba. In general, it's not bad, according to the reviews of vacationers in other hotels, it turned out that many are worse than this one. It should be borne in mind that Cuba is a "sanctioned" country, and the expectations of food and service should be appropriate.
At the reception: check-in only from 16:00 (arrival at the hotel at 11:00), but a payment of $ 35 resolved issues with early check-in and a good room (provided a triple room with side ocean view for single occupancy, bungalow No. 11).
There is no Russian-speaking staff at the hotel, There were very few Russian-speaking tourists - 12 people in total (adults and children).
The hotel grounds are beautiful, clean, and cleaned regularly. The beach has its own pontoons and a "piece" of sandy gentle entry into the water, the depth depends on the tides, there are no waves, it is better to occupy free sun beds in advance both on the beach and by the pool. By the way, it was worth leaving a beach towel on a chaise longue without things once, so after 15 minutes someone "took it away", and the loss of the towel was paid, as a result, they barely figured it out at the reception and gave me a similar towel without payment.
Room: the furniture is outdated, everything seems to be in working order, including a free safe, and the feeling of shabbiness did not leave the room. There was no kettle in the room. The air conditioner was working properly, there was no heat or humidity in the room. Cleaning, of course, is terrible ... Not only is it cleaned after lunch (after 15:00), but also very superficially (I recommend asking yourself to clean or replace what you need in the room, because sometimes you even had to ask for water), and tips do not change the situation at all. There were no slippers and a bathrobe in the room, the hair dryer worked, cosmetics were rarely filled and only in wall containers. There were no mosquitoes or midges in the room, but lizards crawled in)) The view from the ocean view room is lovely, with a balcony.
The kitchen is full of cockroaches (!) right next to food and drinks, there are a lot of flies, crows in open areas. To minimize encounters with cockroaches, it is better to eat "from the grill" - they cook with you and take it right away. In terms of assortment for Cuba, this is probably a good option, but for 5* according to the usual standard, it is clearly not enough; the choice of first courses is limited (1-2 types); from hot dishes - chicken, meat, fish, seafood (without frills), including on the grill (this is perhaps the most delicious) but basically the same thing, there is no variety; fruits - apples, pineapples, guava, papaya and bananas, very tasty fruit juices, fresh vegetables - cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, carrots and olives; desserts are tasteless, chocolate ice cream is excellent, there are always queues for it. Salads are a separate story, they seemed to be made from leftovers (just mix one with the other and put in the form of salads). The service is generally good, the alcohol is excellent, especially red and white wines, but it happens that the wine in the bars runs out))
The animation is varied throughout the day and evening: daytime activities in the water and on land, dance lessons, contests, and in the evening live music and performances by artists.
The Internet is terrible, because the connection is often cut off, and it is not on the entire territory of the hotel. More or less only at the reception, but for free.
The location of the hotel: relative to the water and the beach is ideal, the beach is its own; there is no wind and waves; the ocean is of amazing beauty and the water is warm. The distance from the airport is 40 minutes. There is nothing to do outside the hotel, only if you walk / drive to Playa Pilar beach (you can walk here from the hotel along the shore or along the trail) and take a bus along the coast to visit other hotels and the local Chaika store. Excursions (by sea and outside the island) are very complementary to your stay at the hotel.
In general, I liked not so much the rest at this hotel (I'm unlikely to return here), but Cuba itself, its nature, the Atlantic Ocean, and people. The weather in March is excellent - it is dry and hot, there was not a single cloudy day.
Day 13 at this hotel. A family with a child of 4 years old. We put a solid 4. Do not count on 5 *. The room was taken by a family with a sea view. A view of the sea, but also of the stone beach. Only at night. One of the advantages is the best beach. To the left is Pilar beach with sand, and on the main part there is a beach with a platform and stairs. The best thing about the hotel is the sea! Stars, hedgehogs, a few fish, pelicans and seagulls, stingrays, crabs in shells - a variety! We were lucky - there are no midges. The hotel is located on the outskirts. Other hotels have it! The hotel is less than half full, which is a definite plus for us! Quiet and peaceful. But on Thursdays, the locals, who are wild for us, come by. Noisy, brusque. It becomes noticeably noisier on the beach, in the sea, and in the dining room. This is a minus. Another of the advantages is a 24-hour bar with various rum-based cocktails, they give a clean 7-year-old, but there is also tequila (Olmeca) and gin (Beefeater), and whiskey. And they do not spare drinks for the guests. Good Spanish wine. During the season, I think there will be queues, but now it's normal. One of the disadvantages is food. You won't be hungry, but the choice is small. There are queues for meat. Cheeses and salami (bomb!) Spanish. There has always been a door blue. Basically everything is imported. Ala carte restaurants are not bad in all this, the wine is different, the food is better, but not everything. It's monotonous, but you won't lose weight. Apples were delivered once a week. Once I was in the apple juice store, also Spanish. Trinidad tour for 2 days is the best there is! But you need to understand that years take you to "convenient" shops. Shopping with rum - no complaints! I tried the advertised stuff inside and took it as gifts, which I liked more, and of course the tasting 0.7) In general, given the choice of directions, the norms. The child ate pasta, cheeses, pizza, sandwiches, apples, omelets. The rice is delicious. Look, choose, but this is the best on Guillermo!
For an island, this is a very good hotel. The beach with pontoons, however, is 20 minutes away on foot - one of the coolest beaches of Playa Pilar. Service and alcohol card at the hotel on "5", food on "4". At the same time, it should be clearly understood that the familiar "5 stars" on the plate here have a completely different meaning. That is, in a good way, "3 stars" is more realistic. If asked, would I come back again? Yes, I will definitely be back
