This ancient cross-domed cathedral, surrounded by the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the Vere River Valley, turned out to be a real architectural and spiritual treasure.

A small monastery, like most in Georgia.
At 11 o'clock the gates were opened.
We were alone, but the abbot opened a stone temple for us.
I am pleased with the new concrete road to the monastery. But you have to be careful about the drains on the road - it's worse than speed bumps.
A beautiful and very cozy place. There are ancient frescoes in the temple. A concrete road is being built from the top of the hill to the monastery, there is a small parking lot about 200m from the monastery. The descent-ascent is quite steep.
A road with a rather steep descent leads to the monastery. There is a primer from the main route, after a few kilometers a concrete one begins, with cleared pockets. There is also a concrete road with steps leading to the monastery itself.
The monastery is very well maintained. Peace and quiet.
A very beautiful monastery, well-maintained, very steep descent to it, with bad brakes, you should not go down to it by car.

Not far from the village of Samadlo, 16 kilometers from Tbilisi, there is an ancient monument of religious culture — the Betania Monastery. The shrine was erected in the name of the Nativity of the Mother of God, and today the monastery remains active, monks live in it, divine services are held in compliance with all customs and traditions. The ancient religious landmark of Georgia is located in the gorge of the Vera River, there are two more small churches on the territory of the monastery.
There is little reliable information about the origin and existence of Bethany — it is only known that the main church of the Nativity of the Virgin was built around the 12th century, and the small church of St. George — a little later, by the end of the 12th century. The frescoes in the Church of the Nativity date back to about 1207.
The Church of the Nativity is a classic cross-domed structure. This temple is famous for its frescoes, which are the most valuable in the interior decoration. One of the most significant frescoes is a portrait of Queen Tamara and a fresco depicting Tsar George III.
For many years in a row, services were held in the temple, but in the Middle Ages, when all the inhabitants died here, the place was abandoned for many centuries. It was only in 1850 that the dilapidated temple was discovered by the artist architect Gagarin, who discovered a fresco depicting Queen Tamara there. The temple was restored and began to live a new life, which continues to this day.
