We stayed at the Hotel Vista Premio Kyoto Nagomi Tei. The hotel is cool and comfortable. The breakfasts are very tasty and pleasant. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Almost everyone speaks English. And if something is unclear, you can always use a translator.
There is a 7-ELEVEN within walking distance.
Taxis are cheaper than in Tokyo. We rode an UBER to all the locations.
Once, a girl at a restaurant at breakfast praised our beautiful manicure and said that all girls from Russia have such beautiful nails, suggesting that we somehow have a thing for it. If you follow her logic, it probably is. By the way, I've never thought about it. After she found out that we were from Russia, she tried to say a few words in Russian. It was so sweet and interesting. It's especially fun to listen to Russian with a Japanese accent. Once again, the fact that the people here are responsive, kind and friendly is confirmed.
Among the must-visit locations: Fushimi Inari Shrine, Nanzen-ji and Kiyomizu-dera (which, unfortunately, we did not get to).
I also want to warn you that wherever you are, prepare for long queues and a large number of people, especially during the cherry blossom and red maple blossoms. We are in the flowering period of the maples. In 2024, it fell at the end of November and the beginning of December.
Kyoto seemed to us like a quiet village with its own cultural code and rhythm of life. There are many locations here, each with its own twist, so I recommend setting aside a few days in Kyoto, as they are all far from each other.
Food: Expectations vs reality
I admit, I didn't like the local cuisine — I got used to the adapted food in Moscow. The only thing we noticed was that there was a queue at the entrance. However, the wait is 40 minutes (and more!) it tired me out, so we often took takeaways from 7-ELEVEN and had picnics in parks (at +18 it was the most). The most delicious crab salad is in the same place.
Another discovery: many cafes charge a table rental fee (350-500 yen per person). This may be indicated in small print on the menu in Japanese or announced by the staff, so be careful.
Shopping: the opening of GU
Many people go to Uniqlo, but its "daughter" GU turned out to be cheaper and more diverse. By the way, many stores refund the tax (10%) immediately at the checkout if the purchase is over 5,000 yen. Don't forget to bring your passport with you — you can't get a free ride without it.
Good location, close to the city center. There are many historical places nearby.
Clean and tidy, they constantly bring something that has run out of hygiene products.
The staff is very friendly.

A cool hotel in the city center, a normal breakfast. Comfortable beds, excellent service. It is surprisingly convenient to wash in a shared laundry room, when it is washed, they take it to the reception and then give it back.
