Surrounded by unspoilt nature, surrounded by the pristine nature of the Cinque Terre National Park and its lush Mediterranean vegetation, Porto Roca gives us the impression of sailing over the sea, accompanied by fragrant flowers and the sounds of chirping birds. An interesting historical center is small, but colorful. A lot of pretty cafes, bars, restaurants attract hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world every year. A gorgeous beach and a magnificent azure sea! The water here is always extremely clear and clean! If you are traveling by car, please note that after leaving the autobahn, a half-hour mountain serpentine awaits you.But to be honest, I really love this panoramic road and I am very happy to move along it.
A little bit of history that I recommend to see by visiting this amazing place.
Monterosso al Mare is one of the largest villages in the Italian Cinque Terre region. Its history began at the dawn of the 13th century, since then it has been considered the most important regional center. In this regard, Monterosso al Mare needed a special defensive system. A complex and highly effective system of fortifications has been preserved here to this day. It was originally built to protect against pirates and consisted of various defensive walls and structures. But the Italians would not be Italians if they had not diluted the boring defensive buildings with a real work of art, even many centuries after their appearance. The masterpiece was Il Gigante, the symbolic defender of the village, towering over the bay. This magnificent statue of Neptune, the god of the deep sea, appeared here more than a hundred years ago as a decoration of the Villa Pastine. The author of Neptune was the Italian-Jewish artist Arrigo Minerbi, originally from a small Italian town in the north of the country. He created a statue of the deity in 1910. Over the century of its existence, the huge sculpture has suffered a lot. During the Second World War, Monterosso al Mare lay in ruins, and Neptune lost his arms, a trident and a giant seashell. The vicissitudes of the weather did not pass without a trace for the god of the seas: the wind and the blows of the waves left evidence of their power on the reinforced concrete body of Neptune. But even today it looks majestic and inspires respectful awe to visitors of Fegina Beach.
