An iconic building on Taganana Hill, both architecturally (eclectic Spanish, Moorish, Ancient Roman, Sevillian, and Art Deco styles) and culturally criminally.
The hotel in the form of two connecting equilateral Greek crosses (crux immissa quadrata)
was built by the Americans in 1930 on the site of the Santa Clara artillery battery.
The hotel is famous for the events of 1933 - the battle for the Hotel National de Cuba, when President Gerardo Machado y Morales was overthrown.
Many celebrities stayed in the most fashionable Cuban hotel: writers George Sand and Ernest Hemingway, the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, American President Jimmy Carter, incredible American actress Ava Lavinia Gardner, great American actors Marlon Brando, Marion Robert Morrison (John Wayne) and Joesef Frank (Buster) Keaton, the great microbiologist Sir Alexander Fleming, the philosopher Jean-Paul Charles Aymard Sartre and many others.
In 1956, with the money of the American mafia, a casino was opened in the hotel under the management of our compatriot from the Russian Empire and the famous Jewish gangster Meyer Lansky (Sukhomlyansky), nicknamed "Mafia Accountant".
Interestingly, in 1946, the famous Havana conference of the American mafia, described in the film "The Godfather 2", organized by the chairman of the "Commission" Salvatore Lucania (Charles Lucky Luciano) and Meer Lansky, took place in the hotel for a week. This conference has defined the "rules of the game" among gangsters for many years. The conference was disguised as the creative evenings of the famous singer Frank Sinatra. Such a place..a prayer, not in the religious sense of the word, of course.

One of the sightseeing attractions of Havana. A respectable hotel. Furniture from the 30s is in excellent condition. The rooms are spacious. A buffet of local products. There is no porridge. A large selection of desserts. An omelette or scrambled eggs will be made with you. A large selection of fruits. In the courtyard of the hotel there is a large recreation area with a bar and a playground for musicians. Peacocks and roosters are walking. They wake everyone up in the morning. There is a music program every evening. This hotel has a room where the Parisien show is shown. You can pay with a Mir card.
