Recommendations.
1 Calculate the strength and time.
2 Go to the sunset in advance.
3 The ascent with the child will take 1.5-2 hours.
4 Take water to children. I'll have some wine for myself.
5 When you get up, wait for the sunset and get high and take pictures. Alas, we are too late for this moment.
6 After sunset, sit and drink wine in the fog. 15-30min.
7 Get high from the descending clouds and take pictures
8 Descent after sunset should be done carefully. Better with a flashlight. But fireflies and bats on the way make the descent unforgettable.
Stunning view from the top of the tower. The ascent is not difficult, if you do not cut down the mountain, In addition to the tower, the walls of the temple, fortifications, and another tower have been preserved. There is a chapel inside the walls of the temple, inside it is covered with icons. You can pray. There is an inexhaustible well in the fortress, you can drink and take it with you, which is very useful on a hot day. The water is very tasty. The only thing to remember is that the tower is closed at 20h and later you will not be able to climb to the upper terrace. Entrance is paid, but not expensive, payment is made at the bottom before climbing. Also, there is parking at the bottom of the mountain (the same is paid) and a cafe. We really liked it.
The most beautiful view of the sea and the Novo Athos Monastery.
Must-visit

The complex is a test! It is incredible how these buildings have survived to our time.
It takes about 30 minutes to get to the tower, the coolest part is only at the beginning, then it's not difficult at all.
It's better not to go with young children, they don't really like such climbing roads, and they're not interested in looking at the remnants of history yet.
The fortress of Anakopia rises majestically above New Athos, it can be seen from everywhere. One tower has been restored in the fortress, which can be climbed. From the tower, and just from the fortress, there are incomparable beautiful views of the sea, New Athos, New Athos monastery. The only drawback is that you have to climb the fortress itself on foot, which is very tedious, while you need to look carefully at your feet, since the path is "mined" by cows grazing here.
An atmospheric place that is definitely worth getting to (although not very easy). A wonderful view from the fortress tower and a very authentic temple. A must-visit!
Very beautiful views. In addition to the inexhaustible source, there are ruins of an ancient temple, where there are many Orthodox icons.
Entrance to the reserve is paid. The ticket offices can be reached by car. There are guides.
It is not easy to climb, the road is a serpentine. Good shoes and a panama hat from the sun are required, as the ascent is from the sunny side.
It's a beautiful place, it's amazing how such powerful defensive structures were built in those years. The thickness of the walls is simply amazing. The tower offers a magnificent view of the sea.
It is worth climbing this mountain, the main thing is to take a good supply of water so that it is enough to reach the fortress itself and there you can collect holy water from the well
It's worth going up there! At least in order to understand more about how people used to live. We went from the bottom))) but it is possible to drive half the way by car. In any case, you can and should rest on the road, there will be a forest at the top and the heat is easier to bear. I do not recommend drinking from the well, after all, the water is stagnant.
Definitely WORTH a visit. The car will have to be left on one of the platforms below. There are sites near the Novo Athos cave, paid, there are places, attempts to park nearby for free are stopped by road signs, traffic police and cafe owners :) Look at the signs, as everywhere else, but especially in Abkhazia on the Russian Federation numbers. But, with proper communication skills, you can negotiate with the cafe ;) There is a platform above, at the cafe / ticket office / first observation deck, free of charge, but there were no seats. After the ticket office, only on foot. Although... I saw two minivans with tourists in Abkhazian rooms a little higher, but there's nothing from the ticket office to this point, probably it's not worth it, just a couple hundred meters away. If you are parked at the bottom of the cave and you are not a supporter of healthy lifestyle, then do not try to walk to the first observation deck and back, you still have to go to the fortress :) Take a taxi to the first inspection, 250 up and 200 down, at the same time listen to the sound of a forced motor, someone else's :) So, you are at the checkout, if you did not take water with you and on the street + 36, then buy it in a cafe nearby, an inexhaustible source (well), like any reward, only at the end of the way. At the "Gate Tower" you can take a breath, and yes, there is a toilet (real, smelly and exotic in the form of a nest of wasps inside) and a hose with industrial water is displayed next to it. Are you done with everything? Then let's go!
1. You will definitely get there.
2. Do not ask the descenders how much further to go, they will smile and say that there is only nothing left. They're lying. Remember the main thing, you will get there.
3. The views are simply amazing, all the way, don't turn your head :) there are benches at every turn, I hope you still took the water? ;)
4. Hooray, you've reached it! Replenish the supply of water from an inexhaustible source, climb into the tower, yes, up to the top, it has been reconstructed and everything is civil inside, ladders, lamps, windows.
5. Beauty!
6. It's time to go down :)
I do not advise going far, with children, but as soon as we got up, the view is gorgeous, there are not always places in the parking lot, I stopped by and there was parking in the morning, but there was no closer to lunch

It is a very beautiful and picturesque place. It is best to climb in comfortable shoes and take a bottle of water with you. In the evening, you can see a beautiful sunset and a stunning view of the city
An incredibly beautiful place! You climb to the top and the view of the mountains, the sea, the clouds is magic. The water in the well is delicious. Let everyone decide for themselves about the unusual abilities of water. The tower and the temple offer stunning views of the landscape from any angle.
The view from the tower is amazing! There are many soaring eagles. Inside the fortress there is a temple of the VII century A.D., an inexhaustible well, inside the temple there is a chapel of the 19th century. On the approaches to the fortress there is a wall with towers of the second line of defense. The remains of the wall of the first line were dismantled by monks to build cells (so said the caretaker of the temple). We climbed in cloudy weather, which was a plus, with a small child 1.5 hours from the entrance to the Athos caves. I didn't want to leave.
I recommend everyone to go up there themselves. We went through all the sights and climbed wherever possible. It's just amazing places, people and history. Yes, it is abandoned in places, unkempt, but this does not affect the overall impression. Climb the tower to the spring.. what views are opening up!
It is necessary to climb in the morning or in the evening , a rather long uphill climb . There is a spring upstairs , you can take water with you or drink there . There are benches at the top of the tower and of course a fantastic view of the city and the monastery. The entrance is 200 rubles.

I think this is a must-visit historical site!
The road from the ticket office to the fortress follows a serpentine path, in terms of climbing it is not too tiring and sometimes under the crowns of trees, in the shade.
The first stop should be made on the fortress wall, there are many places where you can look and locations for photographing.
There are many viewpoints on the fortress itself, but the most fascinating view opens from the main tower, it has been restored and there is a fairly convenient staircase inside. From the top of the tower there are wonderful views, on the one hand to the Caucasus mountains, on the other hand to the sea and of course to New Athos.
I advise all guests of Abkhazia to visit this place!!!!
Excellent observation deck. Panoramic sea and mountain views. Sukhum and Pitsunda are also visible. It takes 15-20 minutes to get up from the parking lot.
Having learned the information from the reviews (thanks a lot for everything!!!), we went to the fortress in the early morning. We took a taxi to the ticket office, then at a leisurely pace, with stops to restore the breathing apparatus) we went along the serpentine. It should be noted that while the sun has not risen high, it lies halfway in the shade of the trees. You're already in the sun Gadya Petrovich))) There are areas where you can't hide from the sun. A little exhausted, they reached the same place and almost screamed with joy))) Either we have reached our goal, or indeed there is an amazing place there, but fatigue has disappeared!!! The steep steps to the tower are already mere trifles compared to the road to the fortress)) The view from there is simply gorgeous!!! However, what should I tell you? Go and see for yourself!!! This is amazing! We put candles in the preserved(!)in the temple building, they collected well water. I want to say thanks again to the guy who got us some water! We girls would not have coped with such a design ourselves)) After 10 o'clock, people began to arrive, the sun was rising higher and higher. Peaceful, contented and not remembering fatigue, we set off on our way back. The trees no longer cast much shadow on the road. The sun drove us down like a magic pendulum)... No matter how difficult it is on the rise, be sure to visit this place! That's great! It's better to see and feel it once!
That's something!!!! You definitely have to go up there, The view is awesome. The whole family did not regret it. It was +32 degrees Celsius, but upstairs there is a ruined temple and a spring with inexhaustible water in it.
Magnificent views open from the height of the fortress and from the observation tower! There are several structures inside the fortification, there is a small chapel. So before going up to the fortress, buy candles in advance!
The climb itself is not very steep, because the road is like a serpentine. Climbing closer to the top, we decided to shorten it and went straight ahead, but I'll warn you right away that there will be a steep climb.
By price: when we arrived there it was morning, approximately 10 a.m., they did not charge us for the passage, because the cash register was not working. But! When we came down, there were already a large number of people (excursions) and the ticket office was already open. But I note that we had a vacation in Abkhazia in January.
As a result of the above, I definitely recommend visiting this place!!!))
