We visited Alexandria for the first time in November 2024 with a cruise from Astoria Grande. I didn't like the city itself, but many of the sights, including the catacombs, are very much. The catacombs have been well preserved to this day. I will not describe their history, you can read it on the Internet, but there are enough artifacts for inspection.
The catacombs are impressive! Surprisingly, the passages and stairs are well made. The old man is impressive!
But! Please note that you cannot buy tickets for cash. I need an Egyptian visa card. We took a taxi driver who gave us a map, took us to museums. An hour of his time was worth 250 pounds. It turned out to be convenient and not expensive.
Another option is to ask people in line to buy you a ticket, but we haven't tried that
One of the most important, if not the most, historical sights of Alexandria. Both aboveground and underground exhibits will be of interest to history lovers. Even school-age children will definitely ask questions and look with curiosity. A real dungeon, light was put in there, new steps were put in, but the entourage of a real crypt still remained. Bas-reliefs, monuments of deceased people, hundreds of people were buried there. Now there are no terrible remains there, only the bones of a horse once buried by someone lie on a showcase in one hall. Nothing supernatural has been noticed ) Be sure to allocate an hour, or even two. There is also a Pompeian column nearby within walking distance, but it only works until 16 o'clock, plan the time!
