High on the mountain, the fortress rises above the city of Seljuk, and next to it are the preserved ruins of the Byzantine basilica built by Emperor Justinian on the site where the holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian was buried
It's worth a visit, since we came to Selcuk, but it's boring. Go on to Effes

The basilica was built of red brick and faced with marble. The church was decorated with marble columns with unusual colors, specially brought here from the islands of the Marmara Sea. On the columns, made in the Ionian style, you can find monograms of Emperor Justinian and Theodora.
