An excellent collection, which began with a gift to the museum by Nicholas II of 18 paintings. The name Athenaeum is from the name of the ancient Greek goddess Athena. The most interesting, of course, is the Kalevala hall (Karelian folk poetic epic). There are paintings, sculptures and musical instruments, which you can listen to by taking a telephone-like handset off the wall. Don't pass by Repin - I saw only one of his paintings, but maybe I missed something)
A great museum. It is located in the very center of Helsinki opposite the station square. Temporary exhibitions are located on the third floor of the museum. On the second floor there is a permanent exhibition. The museum's collection includes Finnish (Edelfelt, Galen-Kalela, Simberg, Yarnefelt) and foreign artists (Munch, Gauguin, Van Gogh). The museum often organizes temporary exhibitions of famous artists, for example, a couple of years ago there was a wonderful Modigliani exhibition, and now there is an exhibition by Frantisek Kupka.
I recommend to everyone who likes art to visit!
An interesting museum. The location is great-next to the railway station. And there were discounts for students when the Russian student ID was announced.
