Dear travelers!
This review is for those who are considering their vacation at the Alila Hotel on Kothaifaru Island in Raa Atoll. I will try to make my review as objective as possible. I must say right away that this is a fairly high-level hotel. The hotel belongs to the Hayatt hotel chain from the USA. The hotel has 80 villas, of which 36 are aquatic, 44 are terrestrial. Villas starting at 2x are aquatic, at 1x are terrestrial.
The hotel has a system of personal butlers. The Butlers speak Chinese, English and one in Russian. We had a Russian-speaking, very pleasant and obliging girl Umeda, who immediately fulfilled all our wishes. We were very satisfied, and we thank her for her good work with us. Thanks to her, our vacation turned out to be full-fledged and high-quality.
The contingent is mainly Chinese, Russians and Koreans, in order of their numbers. There are only one children in the hotel, the kids club is always empty. There are not many people on the island, everyone gathers only for breakfast.
The island is quite large by Maldivian standards, it takes about 30 minutes to walk along the shore (this is 2.5 km). The island is green, everything is surrounded by greenery, there are tall beautiful royal palm trees on the island, which is rare for the Maldives. The time on the island corresponds to Male time, that is, Maldivian time. Many hotels shift the time, this one does not.
Coral slippers are not required, but you can take them with you, the sand is white and fine, there are stones at the bottom in some places. The fins taken from the diving center turned out to be soft and comfortable. There are no bicycles for guests on the island. Everyone moves either on foot or in a buggy with their butlers.
The hotel has 3 restaurants, a coffee shop and one bar. The main restaurant is Seasalt (Sea salt), where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. Alyakart dinners. There is champagne on request at breakfast. The breakfasts are very tasty and of high quality. Chef Frank, a young guy from Germany, cooks very well, even, one might say, exquisitely. He constantly approaches the guests and asks if they like everything or what they don't like.
The food in the hotel is very good, it is a paradise for those who like to eat tasty and with pleasure. Gourmets will love it here. This is a rarity in many hotels in the Maldives.
In the main restaurant, we were served by a modest guy Sebastian from China. Our big thanks to him for his good service.
On the other side of the island there is a Japanese restaurant Umami (Umami), quiet, calm, with pleasant music, connoisseurs of Japanese cuisine will really like it. There are only dinners here. Next to it is a chamber Japanese restaurant-bar Yakitori bar (Yakitori bar), with 7 tables, very tasty seafood. There are lunches and dinners here. Restaurants for the evening must be booked through butlers, except for the main one.
There is a Pibati coffee shop with 6 tables where you can drink coffee, chocolate (cocoa), beer, as well as have a snack or lunch. The hotel's catering system implies that if you have dined somewhere, then lunch at another restaurant will be paid. With the exception of breakfast, you have only three dishes to choose from for lunch and dinner, the rest are all paid.
The menu in all restaurants is in English and Chinese only. There is no Russian menu, it will be difficult to order from the menu without knowing English.
There are a lot of fruits in all restaurants. Of the fruits, we enjoyed papaya and mango. There are many other fruits as well. We were very satisfied with the cuisine at this hotel. The Yakitori Bar restaurant has a very good waiter Chanaka from Sri Lanka. Very cool and polite. Our thanks to him for the good service. The Mirus bar by the main pool (open from 11-23) is a nice place to sit at sunset, listen to music and the sound of waves. During the day, many people sunbathe here, this is a place for day and night parties. The bar has a wonderful waiter Sandip from Nepal. Cheerful, friendly and runs faster than a comet. Our gratitude to him for his work and daily positive.
And, in general, the entire hotel staff is very friendly and welcoming.
The hotel was built from scratch on a desert island. It was built for 3 years from 2018, the hotel opened in 2021. The hotel is new, the whole architecture is in high-tech style. There are no Maldivian huts with sloping roofs made of palm leaves and Maldivian flavor. But there is a different flavor here, the room has wide panoramic windows, a bathtub, a bedroom, all hi-tech equipment, everything is new and working. Good water pressure. The air conditioner blows sideways, not on the bed. The room has a good coffee machine, a kettle, 2 liter and 4 small bottles of water, a minibar. Everything is replenished except welcome champagne and welcome fruits. The room has comfortable mattresses and high-quality blankets and pillows. There is an additional pillow menu. The rooms have good quality cosmetics. The villa is cleaned twice a day.
The hotel has good illumination of the sea piers, you can walk freely at night without fear of falling into the water. The lighting of the tracks on the island is also good.
There is a reef on the island, 200 meters from the shore. It is located in the north of the island. The reef is weak, uninteresting, dead, there are few fish, no turtles, no octopuses. But many times the eaglets swam under the water villas. It is dangerous to swim on the reef at low tide, keep an eye on the ebb schedule on the Internet. There is a strong current along the reef, which changes its direction, be careful. I highly recommend taking boat trips to Manta Rays at this hotel. We are already in the Maldives at the 10th hotel, and I had a dream to meet manta rays. It came true here, we swam with manta rays, it was impressive. It will stay for the rest of your life.
In the west, the main Seasalt restaurant and the Pibati coffee shop do not have a reef, but there are several sandy lagoons with turquoise water where you can just enjoy swimming without coral slippers. The water is so clear and ultramarine that it reminds me of Cuba or promotional photos of the Maldives.
As a result, this is one of the best hotels in the Maldives, where we managed to visit.
Whether to come here or not, the decision will always be yours. I want to return to the Maldives. Maldives is a paradise on earth. Have a good trip and new experiences to all!
