The road from Turkey is excellent. There is no queue for cars and pedestrians. For everything about everything, 20-30 minutes, except for individual cases. The checkpoint is very good. The road through Georgia probably still remains from the Union, but this is not a problem if you plan a trip so that you can drive from the checkpoint to Tbilisi in the afternoon or vice versa.
A huge plus of this border crossing is the almost complete absence of passenger traffic, only trucks. What's more important, unlike Vale Posof, the crossing works around the clock!
And now the lyrics. There are about 30-40 km of terribly dead roads from Georgia, but it is possible to drive. Politely squeezing between the trucks, we were glad that there were only trucks here besides us. We were happy early! At passport control, the border guard grandfather, ignoring his glasses dangling on his chest, incorrectly entered my wife's passport data (and the passport is 5 years old, without a chip, all data is manually entered). The car we drove into Turkey was for my wife. Customs won't let us in - it's a system problem, they say. We were sent to this grandfather three times! And only for the fourth time, the grandfather deigned to put on glasses and, seeing his mistake, entered the correct passport data! They let us in! Instead of 30 minutes, we spent 3 hours.
Now we know about the system problem (and you know it from now on), so go ahead!
By the way, there is a duty-free service, the range is acceptable, and it worked at 10 pm!
In general, if you pass the border late in the evening or at night, having previously visited Vardzia or returning from Turkey and planning to visit it, then I recommend it.

Excellent border crossing, at the time of our presence there were 3 cars with Russian license plates and 1 with Bulgarian ones. The road after Georgia is only a small section of bad, 5 kilometers, everything else is fine. Well, there were also trucks - the biggest queue - in the direction of Turkey, but because the other border crossing was closed, they did not interfere with us.
