My cat died after a routine dental cleaning at this clinic. When I picked him up, I was told that everything was fine and that the cat just needed peace. I believed the doctors and tried to provide him with the best possible conditions, being sure that he would soon return to himself.
However, soon after returning home, the cat became sedentary, and at night his condition deteriorated sharply – bleeding appeared, and the paws became numb. In the morning, I drove him back to the clinic, where he died a few hours later.
I tried to get an explanation of why such symptoms in a completely healthy cat who came for a regular procedure.
Later I learned that the cat was given the drug Rimadyl (carprofen) at a dose of 0.6 ml per 5.3 kg. Independent veterinarians immediately drew attention to this preparation, as it is not recommended for cats due to the high risk of severe side effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding, liver and kidney damage. It is used in cats very rarely, in exceptional cases and in minimal doses.
And here the question arises: Why did Doctor Joanna Szklarska-Piotrowska decide to use this particular drug? Did she think "it would be okay"? Or was she unaware of the possible consequences? In both cases, this is unacceptable.
Moreover, the doctor herself did not once mention that the cat's condition could have been caused by the drug given. Only other specialists immediately pointed to Rimadyl as a possible cause.
Of course, the doctors did not forget to mention to me that I signed the consent for the procedure and was informed about the risks, but does this mean that now they can give animals any drugs in any doses? Does the signed declaration release them from responsibility for the professional and safe performance of their work?
The clinic did not give me full information about the condition of the animal before his death. Instead, I was offered a refund, but on condition that I sign a statement that I have no claims. If they are sure that everything was done correctly, why do they require such a document? Were they hoping people wouldn't know what really happened?
I lost a member of my family. Now I'm trying to learn to live with this loss and come to terms with the new reality. I'm sorry I trusted this clinic and its doctors. Be careful where you treat your loved ones.
It is not worth checking on your own animals, what else can manifest the incompetence of the doctor, even if you have been here many times (like us).
