The Christopher Columbus Monument in Barcelona is an iconic landmark located on the waterfront, at the very end of the famous La Rambla Street, next to the port. The monument was unveiled in 1888, in honor of the World's Fair, and symbolizes Columbus' great contribution to history when he opened the way to the New World.
The 60-meter-high column is topped by a bronze statue of Columbus himself, who points to the horizon with his hand, as if directing his ships to unknown lands. This monument has become an important symbol of Barcelona and its historical connection with navigation and discovery.
You can take an elevator to the top of the monument, and from there you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the old port of Barcelona, the city districts and the Mediterranean Sea. This is an ideal place for those who want to enjoy the views of the city and learn more about its history.
a starting place for a walk along the Rambla, a pedestrian street for tourists, many flowers and living sculptures, I recommend, on the way you can visit the fish market
Barcelona is a great place for tourists, recreation, shopping, museums, entertainment!…. Over the past 5 years, it has been heavily criminalized due to the constant robberies of tourists in Arab and tourist areas, I do not recommend wearing precious things, watches and small handbags and purses! Especially during evening and night walks!
