Holy Trinity Cathedral
Saint Petersburg • Orthodox church

Alexander Nevskii Monastery complex is important from a historical point of view. The individual buildings are not as spectacular as Kazan Cathedral, Issac Cathedral or Church on Spilled Blood. The Monastery is still interesting to visit. There is quite a lot of reconstruction currently, making taking good quality photos difficult. It is recommended to read the history of Alexander Nevskii and some of the other famous people entombed in the Monastery before visiting.

Stolovaya located on the grounds of Alexander Nevskii Monastery. Food is very nice. The portions were very generous. The облепиха (seabuckthorn) juice for sale at the counter is genuine and not overloaded with sugar (as is typical). IMPORTANT: The stolovaya *only* accepts cash. No cards, no phone and no electronic payment. There is a ATM at the metro station. Make sure to have cash before visiting.

Very nice bread at a very reasonable price sold on the grounds of Alexander Nevskii Monastery. There are several caravans around the Monastery complex. Some sell sweet bread, but there one located where this Yandex pin is located sells small and large sandwich bread (uncut, full loaf). The "Monastery Bread" is nice, it is a small raisin bread. The БАБУШКИ inside are very friendly and helpful. They accept payment by card or cash. Whenever I am in the area I buy their bread. It is much better than what is sold in supermarkets.
Vladimir Lubenko's mosaic courtyard

A unexpected and surprisingly nice mosaic courtyard, children's play area and mural hidden near Peter the Great's Lodge. Highly recommended for those with an interest in creativity and modern art. The style slightly reminds me of some of Gaudi's creations in Barcelona, but certainly the artist has their own unique style. The courtyard area with a children's play castle has seating, a sundail and other mosiac decorations including a large Lion. Around 100m meters away there is a low relief culture mural on a wall. Be sure not to miss this as it is quite impressive. I wish I knew more about who created this and what is depicted.

A nice monument to Dmitri Mendeleev. Maybe those who are history or science enthusiasts will enjoy the most. Mendeleev was originally from Siberia and was taken to Moscow and St. Petersburg by his mother to continue his education. Located directly across from St Petersburg Technical University and diagonally across from Technological Institute Metro station. The statue is quite popular. I was only there for a few minutes and steady stream of people came and visited.

"Mariinsky Theatre" has four facilities that I know of. Be sure to check your ticket to ensure you arrive at the correct location. No.1 the original Mariinsky Theatre No.2 Mariinsky-2 immediately behind the original Mariinsky across a canal No.3 Stravinsky Hall (top floor of Mariinsky-2) No.4 Concert Hall (this location) Note: buildings are about 400m away from each other. The music, environment and evening was very nice. Completely comparable or better than other locations I have been to in Western Europe (London, Vienna, Paris), especially when factoring in the price. Mariinsky is much better value in general than European locations. The Mariinsky buildings are all different in their architectural history. The original Mariinsky Theatre is like something from a Russian Novel from around 1860. This is not a request to modernize this building. Please keep it exactly as it is! Mariinsky-2/Stravinsky is an entirely brand-new building Mariinsky Concert Hall is a blend on both these approaches. The building was almost entirely demolished, only the external facade seemed to be preserved. The entire internal structure is new. On the 3rd floor there is an interesting series of photos showing the construction and eventual opening (around 2005). A must visit for music lovers.

One of the nicest French cafes in St. Petersburg. There is separate seating for the cafe and restaurant. The restaurant area is very refined and pleasant. There is a play area for children. The service from the staff is excellent. The Russian menu is written in Russian cursive, which is very difficult to read for those learning Russian. I believe an English menu is available on request. There is a seductive selection of desserts that will instantly defeat anyone on a diet. The desserts are a generous size, suitable to share between two people. The location is beautiful, away from the busy downtown, menu is nice and ambience is perfect.

Historic first railway station in the Russian Empire. The station is well worth a look at if travelling to Pushkin. There is a nice waiting room upstairs on the first floor. A model of Pavlovsk Railway station can be seen. On the ground floor in the atrium there is an English information display with a detailed history of the station.

Beautiful cemetery at the end of Nevskii Prospekt containing many famous Russian authors, composers and performers. Tchaikovsky and Dostoyevsky are two very famous artists buried here. Those who love and admire great Russian authors and composers will enjoy visiting "Necropolis of Masters of Arts" The ticket costs 200 roubles and is best purchased online from gmgs.ru The Necropolis is located next to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral complex. It is worth to allow for at least 3 hours to see everything in the Cathedral, Necropolis and surrounding Monastery area. The Necropolis is separate from the Monastery so you cannot buy one ticket for the entire complex. There is a Stolovaya located next to the souvenir and icon shop. Several бабушка are selling bread in carts and they say is baked in the Monastery. The бабушки speak some English and the bread was very good. I will buy from them the next time I visit.
