The nature around is very picturesque in spring and autumn. The fortress itself looks majestic and mysterious against the background of this beauty. It's not for nothing that the movie "Bastards" was filmed in these places. There is something to admire and enjoy visiting.
If you are going there as a tourist, it is advisable to combine it with a visit to the observatory, an anomalous place where the car seems to be rolling uphill on a non-truck and the Kari mountain lake. But in late autumn and very early spring, you can not get to the lake because of the snow.
An ancient fortress at an altitude of 2,300 meters. Amazing views of the slopes of the gorge, overgrown with beautiful poppies, will not let you get bored all the way to the castle. The castle needs restoration, one of the towers has come off the wall and threatens to collapse onto a narrow path on the edge of a picturesque gorge with life-giving springs below. Be sure to have a thoughtful, leisurely visit lasting at least 45-50 minutes. It will bring indelible positive impressions)
The walls of the castle, which is more than 1000 years old, are well preserved.
There is a beautiful church nearby, completely restored.
The building of an ancient bathhouse is also located on the territory of the complex.
A great historical place near Yerevan. An ancient citadel, a church. The views are gorgeous on the gorge. There is a cafe nearby where delicious Armenian coffee is made.
It's a great place! It is very beautiful, large-scale and impressive.
It's not easy to get there by the serpentine, but it's worth it.
It was very nice to see the real antiquity and touch the history. Happy are those who can observe this beauty often.
A colorful fortress in a cool location. Keep in mind that the fortress itself is currently under repair and in fact you can only walk around. They don't mention anything about it at the checkout. At the same time, there is not much to do in the fortress itself, but it's fun to take a walk. At the moment, I advise you to go only if you have extra time
To be honest, the place is not worth such a long journey. The last half hour has been climbing up the dead road. The entrance fee is 1500 AMD, a child under 12 years old is free of charge. You can only get there by car. The fortress was destroyed in the Middle Ages, and only parts of the walls remained of it. Only the church is well preserved. Obviously, there was a settlement around, but no one is exploring anything. I do not recommend visiting
This is pure splendor, a unique atmosphere, the area itself is striking in beauty, the road is good, one of the most beautiful locations in all of Armenia. There are a lot of walnut trees along the way, you can eat in the fall, natural delicious honey and seasonal fruits are sold on the territory
Just admiration, to feel the ancient Armenian heritage, and the Ancient people who adopted Christianity and the spirit of the Armenian people!!! The walls of the castle speak for the people who built this church and the castle that have survived to this day, low bow to this people!!!!!!!!
The fortress is interesting. Entrance is paid, 7 years ago it was free, there is a hiking trail through the territory of the fortress to the nearest village (for those who are not by car), I asked for a guard, they let me on the trail for free.
An ancient, beautiful, but almost destroyed fortress among the mountains and gorges. There is a clean church nearby. There is ample parking. The place is pleasant to visit.
It's a very interesting place. Not much remains of the castle, but the ruins allow us to assess how large-scale this fortress was during the time of the Armenian kings
Minus the administration. I brought friends, the cashier sold tickets to everyone with a smile, and people met us at the fortress and said that filming was taking place inside and no one would be allowed in for two hours. And what, may I ask, did we pay for?
A nice and interesting place. High-quality walking area. As you drive, do not pass the place - the Armenian anamalia. The river is flowing uphill! I'm serious. I was even more impressed by it than the castle itself. By the way, the movie "Bastards" was shot right next to Ambert Castle.
It's a beautiful place, but you can't go inside the citadel itself. Our tour was very short, about 10 minutes from the balcony near the ticket office. And in November, you need to dress warmly here: it's very cold!
You can get there only in summer because the snow comes off only in June and at the end of September there are already drifts on the road. Also higher up on the mountain there are glacial lakes with the purest water.
A fantastic place. My Armenia is a paradise on earth. Here you will meet the centuries-old culture of Armenia. In summer it is necessary to visit there, in winter it is very difficult to get there
The castle is in a picturesque place. Many of the walls have survived. Only small buildings have roofs (bathhouse). There is a beautiful church nearby.
The road is completely paved.
Quickly…
Entourage ruins.
Cool view of the surroundings.
An undeveloped service.
Complete lack of infrastructure.
But comparative antiquity, the room is shown to civilized people…
Ruined castle of the 7th century, great views. It's easy enough to get up and down to it, but you'll have to get your hands dirty.

It's a very beautiful place.
Amberd (arm. Ամբերդ ) is a historical complex on the slope of Mount Aragats in Armenia consisting of a castle of the VII century and a church of the XI century. It is located at an altitude of 2300 meters above sea level.
History
It is assumed that the castle was founded by the princes of Kamsarakan, then the castle passed into the possession of the Armenian military commander Vahram Pahlavuni. Subsequently, it was bought by the Armenian rulers of the Bagratuni dynasty, who turned the castle into the main outpost of their kingdom. The church in it was built in 1026.
The castle was first captured by the Seljuk Turks in the 11th century, and in 1236 the castle was finally destroyed by the Mongols.
Numerous underground passages led from the castle down into the gorge, some of which can still be found today. Also, there was a water supply system in Amberd, so far only a 4-kilometer part of it has been explored, the beginning has not yet been found.
Amberd Castle is located halfway to the peaks of Aragats in a beautiful gorge between two rivers.
The 3-storey palace occupied an area of about 1,500 sq. m. Despite the fact that the palace was partially destroyed, artifacts found during excavations indicate that the palace was richly decorated.
One of the most favorite places near Yerevan. A beautiful serpentine road, in principle close to the Fountain, snow is visible on the road in May, and dandelions bloom in November. The very absurdity is monumental, with beautiful views.
It's probably very beautiful, but we couldn't see it - we couldn't get through on December 31. At the last fork (castle/lake) there was a dense snowfall and several traces of unsuccessful attempts to pass it.
So it's worth bearing in mind that in winter this place may be inaccessible.
Admission is 1500, children are free. There is a paid tour of 3500 it seems. You can watch it quietly for almost an hour. It is necessary to go at lunch or in the morning, as there is a strong wind in the evening. It's interesting to walk, look, climb. There is a toilet on site.
Any type of vehicle is suitable for visiting in summer!

The place is exciting and impressive - it's nice to walk around, look around, climb inside, read what they say on the signs. Of the disadvantages, there is no accompanying infrastructure: when we were in May 2024, some kind of cafe was just being built.
A very beautiful place was there in the fall of 2022. A convenient road along which you can drive any car and of course stunningly beautiful places) do not forget to take cash with you to pay for the entrance ticket
The history of the ages is before your eyes. The castle has not been restored yet, but its views already give an understanding that hundreds of years ago it was built forever. The Church provides peace for centuries. Just sit inside, close your eyes, feel the faith in your eyelids.
And the places are there...peace and quiet
These are ruins... After November 15, there is nothing to do there, everything is covered with snow and the cold is dog-like. We have to go in the summer to climb the catocombs
