St. Sophia Cathedral is a tourist attraction in Polotsk. The majestic architecture, the location on the high bank of the Western Dvina River - the views are breathtaking. The cathedral has survived to this day in the style of the Vilna Baroque. It was completely rebuilt in 1738-1750 after the original building was destroyed by the explosion of a powder magazine in 1710. The snow-white building with two towers pointing upwards looks very picturesque. There is now a museum and a concert hall inside. I was lucky to get to the organ concert, and it was unforgettable. The instrument is recognized as the best in Belarus, installed by a well-known Czech company. The sound is amazing - clear, soulful, and incredibly powerful. The acoustics in the cathedral are unique: it seems that the music envelops you from all sides. The time of the concert flew by unnoticed, leaving a very bright, uplifting feeling.

A majestic place. The very realization that you can see inside what was created more than 1,000 years ago, and that this place has been the center of the Principality of Polotsk for centuries, is inspiring, and seeing the territory around, with ramparts and a river, is so inspiring. I consider the place a must-visit

The first one on our trip from St. Petersburg to Belarus was Polotsk. We arrived in the evening. We walked with great curiosity and interest along the pedestrian zone of Franziska Skaryna Avenue. And in the morning we went to get acquainted with St. Sophia Cathedral. Polotsk is the geographical center of Europe, it is the oldest city in Belarus, it is the center of development of the Belarusian state and culture. St. Sophia Cathedral is the oldest stone building in Polotsk. The cathedral is very beautiful and monumental, although it is not large. The cathedral serves as a museum and music hall for chamber and organ concerts. It's a pity that we didn't get to attend the concert. Near the cathedral there is a Wishing Stone and a monument "Polotsk -the cradle of the Belarusian statehood". We highly recommend that you come to both the museum and the concert.

A magical place - a spring , a stone , a monument, a bridge , the cathedral itself with concerts , and the views - everything is magnificent . It is gracious and atmospheric. You can walk everywhere slowly, admire and breathe in the beauty.

It's a new building, but the foundation and the underground part are old. The cathedral itself is large with stunning views all around. A 30-minute excellent organ music concert can be noted separately.

Sightseeing of the entire attraction will take a maximum of 10 minutes. Yes, it's a beautiful place, and the well-equipped area around the cathedral is also beautiful) In my opinion, it's worth stopping by once, and then it's on the way to other attractions, you don't need to go separately.

A cathedral of rare beauty. Built in a unique style. There are ancient monuments near the Cathedral. The observation deck offers a beautiful view of the opposite bank of the Western Dvina River!

Admission is inexpensive. It's beautiful and quiet inside, and there's a museum on both the ground floor and the ground floor. For those who want to listen to the organ, it's only on certain days, see the schedule! I've been to the organ three times, and I've fallen asleep all the times))))

We visited with the children in May. An excellent guide, interesting facts, told very fascinating stories. This cathedral impresses with its grandeur and splendor. The most beautiful concert hall. I advise everyone to visit not only as a museum, but also to attend the "Safari Parties" and listen to the organ.

The most beautiful cathedral, the visiting card of the city, is a must-visit. The entrance to view the exhibitions costs 6 BYN, with the possibility to go down to the basement. I was also very lucky to get to the last one (on this day).a mini concert of organ music (worth 10 BYN), which lasted 30 minutes, but it was enough to experience the full power and greatness of the instrument in skillful hands. If I remember correctly, such mini concerts take place at 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., according to the staff, they try to seat everyone, so there is no point in taking care of tickets in advance.

An ancient cathedral (underground part for sure), a witness to history and a part of it. The cathedral was not only rebuilt a lot, it also moved from one denomination to another, which radically changed its appearance. The building is picturesquely located on the high Castle Hill, is the architectural dominant of the ancient city. Now there is a museum here, the exposition is not very large, but informative. If you can get to the other side of the Dvina River, you will get a better view.

I have long dreamed of visiting the cathedral, they are not allowed to take pictures inside, but even the exterior architecture is striking in its beauty. For me, this temple is as much a favorite as the temple in Gervyaty.

I am deeply grateful for the organ concert on September 6th! Ksenia Maksimovna got into the very heart. It was worth letting go of the expectation of habitual harmony, allowing yourself to follow the sound into the unknown in order to get into the space of free discovery of feelings and meanings. Special thanks for discovering Belarusian artists that I haven't heard of until now. ✨️ ✨

St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk is one of the oldest churches in Belarus, an outstanding monument of architecture and culture. Originally built in the 11th century, it has been rebuilt several times, including in the Vilna Baroque style. Today it is not only an active temple, but also a museum, as well as a concert hall with unique acoustics.

Beautiful snow-white old cathedral. We looked at it from all sides and all shores. The queues on the weekend are long and when you go inside, you won't see anything without a tour, as everything is curtained. If you want to take a look, pay up. It's interesting to see. Walking around is priceless. Beautiful views of the river and the landscaped grounds.

A beautiful place, opposite the cathedral there is an observation deck with a view of the river and the bridge. There is a museum inside, as well as regular organ music concerts. I just managed to get here on one of those days. It is very well maintained both inside and out. One of the key tourist destinations in Polotsk!

We visited Polotsk twice and were twice unable to get inside the cathedral. The first time was prevented by the New Year holidays , the second time by the wedding . Yes, yes , standing for an hour under the doors of the cathedral in the heat , with a busy city tour program , there was no desire . In the churches of Grodno , for example, there are simply signs asking them not to make noise during the service . Services were held freely in other Orthodox cathedrals in Grodno , Vitebsk and Polotsk . Outwardly , of course , it is beautiful .

The beauty of this building is impressive. Concerts are given here for organ music lovers. For the sake of interest, we also visited. The playground near the cathedral is neat, everything is beautiful, and it offers a wonderful view of the river and the park opposite. The cathedral itself is located on a hill, which is reached by a beautiful staircase.

Until recently, the entrance was free, but now it's 6 rubles. for entering, just look. They are unlikely to be allowed into the underground part of the cathedral, where the church in which the future Abbess Euphrosyne prayed was originally located. However, it is worth noting that the cathedral's territory is being improved, the descent and playgrounds have been updated, and more are being built, and wide pedestrian paths are being laid.

The place is very beautiful, the cathedral stands majestically on the mountain, it is also beautiful nearby. I recommend that you carefully study the time of visit and all the rules, since the cathedral is not an operating one, but a museum. We arrived at 6:31 p.m. They wouldn't even let us in, the staff wasn't very friendly.

In the territory of ancient Russia, around the 11th century, Byzantine architects rebuilt 3 St. Sophia Cathedrals: in Veliky Novgorod, Polotsk and Kiev. If St. Sophia of Novgorod has practically preserved its original appearance, then 2 other cathedrals have been rebuilt. A week ago I had a chance to visit St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk. The cathedral today is a museum and at the same time a concert hall for organ music. In the lower hall of the cathedral, which is reached by a wooden staircase, you can see a model of that ancient cathedral, the remains of ancient masonry, as well as artifacts found during the restoration. Since the temple was actually rebuilt in 1770 in the Vilna Baroque style, we will see the corresponding decoration with small preserved fragments of paintings from the 11th century on the eastern wall of the cathedral. Naturally, the temple should definitely be visited, along with the Spaso-Euphrosyne Monastery and the museum of local lore...

I really wanted to attend an organ concert - a dream come true) Acoustics... words still cannot convey it, you need to visit, hear how the music seems to come from the walls of the cathedral itself. A vivid impression for a lifetime. And the work "Francis Skarina" in three parts is creepy...

It is quite enough to inspect the outside. The interior was recreated with the crumbs that remained from the saw, apparently. There is no clear history of the creation and existence of the Cathedral inside. The rare exhibits that were discovered during the excavations are poorly presented.

I visited St. Sophia Cathedral on May 03, 2026, went to the museum and to organ music, to be honest, I would have given 3 out of 5 points for the museum, I listened to organ music before, but I liked it most in Kaliningrad, it's a pity that there are no projectors here, it would be interesting how the composition is performed

The architecture was impressive, we got on a tour, be sure to take it: the cathedral is small, you can walk quickly, but the most important thing is that the tour tells you why they appreciate the landmark and why it is included in the UNESCO heritage list, it's really interesting to listen) I recommend

There is a museum in the cathedral building now, to impress me, no, there are bare walls and statues of saints in some places, the only thing you can do is go down to the basement and look at the foundation, but this is also for an amateur. However, in one place there is a piece of preserved frescoes and a piece of the floor.

One of the most beautiful ancient cathedrals in the republic. The exterior offers wonderful views and other interesting places. The territory is cleaned, everything is neat. Partial repairs have been made and it is possible to assess what the building was like and what has now turned out. An active fountain is installed inside, where concerts are constantly held. There is also a small museum for a very nominal fee...
