It's a very atmospheric place. The ships are completely rusted and dismantled for scrap, but the skeletons are in place, and it's interesting to look at it. Getting around the city is very close.

On the one hand, the Ship Graveyard definitely deserves five stars. A completely cosmic landscape, an absolutely surreal feeling of oneself in it. On the other hand, knowing the tragedy of the Aral Sea, is it ethical to give it five stars... it's up to you. I will still give five stars to this tragic place. There used to be a fish cannery here in the city of Muynak. There was a sea here (the shots that you will see in the local museum are truly impressive - quite high waves, ships...) The factory was built here in 1941 and at its peak (in 1958) produced 21 million (!!) cans of canned fish. The Aral Sea accounted for 3% of the total fish catch of the Soviet Union, so there was no shortage of fish. And then... then the Karakum Canal was built. Then they began to actively develop cotton farming. And the water level in the Aral Sea began to fall. Back in Soviet times, people began to leave Muynak, the plant gradually languished and finally closed in 1990. Now, where there was a sea, there are rusty ships as a reminder of the lost past. A reminder that nature is strong but fragile and that she will not be able to bear the burden that humanity offers her forever.

I've been here. The trip is very long. We ended up in the afternoon when it was hot. There were some competitions for schoolchildren, and there were markings on the sand around the ships. These ships are a strange sight. Yes, the Aral-Kum is one of the toughest deserts I've been to. Heavy wind and scorching sun. Even in Wadi Rum it was not so tough.
