Cafe Pripyat is an abandoned building in the Chernobyl exclusion Zone. The cafe's history: built in the mid-1970s, it was a popular meeting place for residents of the city of Pripyat. In the cafe you could relax, have lunch and enjoy the scenic views. It also served as a cultural center where discussions, small performances, and social events were held. Reasons for abandonment: On April 26, 1986, the fourth reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded, a large amount of radioactive material got into the air. The explosion turned the once thriving city into an uninhabitable radioactive zone. The cafe was connected by a colonnade canopy with the building of the river station. In one of the halls, a recognizable stained glass window in the style of the seventies was located on the windows. Vending machines for selling sparkling water have been preserved at the side wall of the building. Modern condition: the cafe's interior is covered with debris and moss, and the famous stained glass windows are cracked but still standing. Visiting: Since the cafe is located in the exclusion zone, visits are only possible as part of a guided tour with appropriate permits. Protective equipment and Geiger counters for monitoring radiation exposure are provided for visitors.
