A fortress dating back to Ancient Rome. The walls and some buildings have been preserved. Excavations are constantly underway on the territory. There is a reconstruction of the legionnaires' camp. A city bus runs from the center of Batumi, stopping right in front of the gate.

The views are beautiful . But we searched and looked at everything in 30 minutes. There wasn 't enough cafe to even drink tea from the road . The children asked for souvenirs , in the form of swords or shields . Unfortunately not either . Not prudently . In general , you can walk around , but be careful with the kids . They want to climb rocks everywhere. The steps are high. The fortress is very ancient - Apsaros fortress. This is the legendary Colchis, probably where King Ayet buried the body of his son, Apsirt, who was killed by Yasin. The city of Apsaros arose at the burial site. There may be a legend about the burial, but the city began to be built in the time of Hellas. This place is connected with the legend of the Golden Fleece, which Jason was looking for and still found. Documentary evidence of this building probably dates back to the 1st century AD, when the Romans built their fortress here. The fortress was designed to protect the borders of an expanding state, so it was built on a grand scale. There are a lot of remnants of plumbing , barracks , etc. There is a museum with coins and utensils and decorations. And a mini barracks .

Gonio Fortress is one of the most ancient and well—preserved fortresses in Georgia, located 15 km from Batumi. Tourists highly appreciate the historical value of the fortress, the wealth of archaeological finds and the atmosphere of antiquity that is felt when visiting. There is a museum with exhibits from the Roman era, preserved ancient fortress walls and towers. The entrance fee is inexpensive (about GEL 3-10), the territory is well maintained, there are paths and greenery. Some visitors note that the fortress is interesting for lovers of history and archeology, although part of the square seems to be empty, and the object is more impressive to trained tourists with imagination. In general, Gonio Fortress is a great place for fans of ancient structures and the history of the region.
