Termessos ancient city is located in present day Antalya city in Turkiye. The city founded by a fierce native Anatolian people called the Pisidians. The city is famous for not being surrendered to Alexander the Great during his invasion of Anatolia in 333BC. Being located like an eagle nest on top of the Güllük Mountain, the city had naturally difficult geography that made it impossible to conquer ; ofcourse, courage of its inhabitants played a great role too! The city later on became a Roman city but always had a strong autonomy. After a major earthquake in 5th century AD, the city was abandoned due to huge damages to its waterways. Due to the city’s location, the city was never rebuilt so, the ruins remain authentic and untouched. The ancient city is now a part of Güllük National Park hence, visitors can enjoy archeology, hiking, and nature altogether. Steep, rocky paths, wild life and breathtaking scenery are what’s included in visiting this ancient city. Make sure to have good hiking shoes and some water with you during your visit.
