St. Elijah's Church (Church of the Holy Prophet Elijah) is a church of the Kiev Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the city of Chernobyl. Some facts about the church: The time of construction of the first church on this site is unknown. It is believed that the temple was founded in the XII century along with the city. The decision to build a new church on the site of the previously burned one was made in 1749. The construction work was completed in 1779. In 1849, the wooden church burned down in a fire. For its restoration in 1851-1852, materials from the Old Believers' chapel were used, dismantled by order of the Kiev military governor Bibikov D. G. In 1872, the church burned down again. In 1877, it was rebuilt in its modern form, and its consecration took place in 1878. In 1929, the temple was closed, and its premises were used as a grain warehouse in the 1930s. It was reopened in 1942 and operated until the evacuation in 1986. Since 1990, irregular services have been held in the church, and in 2001 regular worship services and parish activities resumed. The main icons of the church are the icons of "Chernobyl Savior" and St. Nicholas.
